Magdeburg/DUR/it – According to a survey, over 33 million Germans were interested in pets in 2021. Therefore, it is not surprising that many people get a dog, cat or other animal. However, there is one pet that is of particular interest.
The online portal portalvergleich.org studied last year’s search queries in detail. Care has been taken to ensure that searches are based on intent to purchase. According to observations, in Germany, the dog took first place. With over 105,700 online searches per month, “man’s best friend” is way ahead of other pets.
In Saxony-Anhalt, dogs are the number one pet
In Saxony-Anhalt, “buy a dog” was also the most frequently searched for, ahead of all other types of pets. Interest from Saxony-Anhalt was especially high at the beginning of May and at the end of December. However, it is not possible to confirm whether search behavior is associated with Mother’s Day and Christmas. The fact that the dog was the most popular pet of 2021 is also reflected in the number of dog owners. In 2021, more than 12.2 million people owned at least one dog, according to Statista.
And all cat lovers are probably wondering why their favorite animal is not number one. At least they took second place. Accordingly, there were about 81,700 online searches for “buy a cat”. In the class of Saxony-Anhalt, the cat only had the second place. However, at the end of the year, the dog and the cat went head-to-head in a head-to-head race.
Guinea pigs are more popular than birds in Saxony-Anhalt
There are about 11.6 million cat owners in Germany, so cats are lagging behind dogs. Third place unexpectedly goes to the parrot. Bright and smart animals are searched online 53,800 times a month, according to the online portal. The parrot, however, is followed by the budgerigar (38,520 searches/month) and the guinea pig (38,050 searches/month).
The three animal species were also almost equally popular in Saxony-Anhalt searches. Only the guinea pig was searched more often than the budgerigar and parrot. In Germany, between 2.3 and 2.6 million people owned a bird or rodent in 2021.
